Changes

Again, somebody left the company this week. It was very sudden but I am not going to be modest and say that I was so astute that when that person was called up, I knew what was coming as the senior staff was advised to lock his computer and all the passwords to network access and computers were changed. A swift goodbye followed and a sweet short company meeting followed. Back to business.

As stressed several times, we are a team and each one should be working towards the common goal together. I’m sure it was not about netbooks or whatever. It’s about performance. Things such as these make one think and double think. Holding onto a job is not easy even if you believe you are doing your best. I remember what a friend said back then. You need to keep yourself abrased with what’s the latest, hone your skills and keep on getting better. Just like celebrities, they aspire to be the best. They develop their skills to an optimum level.

Changes

A long time ago, when my husband was planning to get a phone plan for an IPhone, I objected vehemently. I didn’t see any sense or practicality in it at all. It’s just another expense that we don’t need.

Last week, my boss has been very generous. He offered me a phone plan with IPhone. Although, the first question I asked was if I need to pay for it, and thankfully, I won’t. Now, I’m beginning to see the benefits of having an IPhone and I’m liking it. No, loving it. I haven’t spent a cent on the apps that I’ve bought but they are all so handy.

My work machine has been bugging me. It shuts itself down out of the blue. It works itself up too much that the fun just keeps on going on and on.

Recently, the company bought some new hardware. Although, I don’t want to impose but I really think I need a new machine if they want me to be more productive than what I am now (yeah, I’m the first person to toot my horn when it comes to productivity as I really believe I works faster). Enough said but I found out there’s no notebooks on the list of things delivered. But then there are desktops and they were to replace the development team’s laptops. And the laptops will be passed on to us. The Dev’s machines are way faster than ours. I’m not sure if they are hp laptops but I’m excited to get one. It wouldn’t be light built but I’m sure way better.

Timesheet

We have implemented the use of Timesheet in the office. It was one of the “makeovers” that the management want to implement along with us moving to the new office location. At first, we used just a formatted excel spreadsheet. It turned-out to be a good process and control. After a couple of months, a new feature in our system were introduced, that is the Timesheet. I did the testing.

It is a very good management tool and quite user-friendly. The timesheet is not used as a tool to monitor the hours spent by the staff in the office. The management is very flexible and considerate that as long as you do your job, you can leave the office early if you need to. This tool is used to measure how many hours are spent on support, administration, customer assistance and on any staff-specific tasks.

I heard that most consulting company use timesheets for their consultant. This is my first but a welcome performance improvement tool for me.

I usually update my timesheet at the beginning of the following day and at the end of day on Friday – just in case I won’t be in the office the following Monday.
