Reviving the garden

It's springtime.  It's time to revive the garden although I have not completely ignored my garden, I have plants that died for some reason.  I am not taking ownership of the fault.  Lol.

My plan this year is to maintain the plants that we have.  If we have to plant something, it has to be from what we have.  No accumulation of plants that I can't look after properly.

So far, I have orchids, begonias, roses and other shrubs that I don't know their names.

Here's one of my orchids.

We Are Back

yes, not that it can be noticed that we have been away if you base it from the post here. I have been slacking, that's why. But anyway, we have been away for almost a month and whew, it has been very relaxing. We are starting to pick things up on the home front. Seven loads of washing on the weekend that we got back not to mention the cleaning and vacuuming around the house. I can't say that we are back to what it was before we left but things are a little bit okay now. We are also back to cooking meals for the weekdays on weekends. With the Tatapilla going to school and with heaps of homework, it is getting difficult to go to sleep early on weekdays. But things are getting better. On the school front, Mcj is busy catching up on paperworks for being a treasurer of PNC at the Tatapilla's school. The Tatapilla is catching up on his homework. See it's like we have one of those work positioner thingie, things are going smoothly. And so yeah, we are back in Down Under and back to normal :)

Sibling Torture

As he is sitting howling in his room, I think about the torture my two brothers put me through. I remember how I learnt that pinching is far more effective than trying to punch a bigger boy who is tickling you to death while smothering you in a bean bag. I also learnt to be a master of the “dummy punch” - I would pretend to throw a punch but actually kick my poor brother in the privates. It certainly stopped him torturing me.

A girlfriend told me her sister used to give her “Chinese burns” at the top of the staircase because there was no way out but falling down the stairs. Another friend told me he once pushed his sister through a window and broke her leg.

These aren’t people who hate their siblings. In fact, they are ones with extremely close loving relationships - well now anyway. Clearly torturing your siblings is just part of growing up.

Like all younger siblings poor Amelie is going to have to learn how to fight back on her own when she is capable.

But what about you? What’s the worst thing you did to a younger sibling? What did your siblings do to you? What have your children done to each other?

I read this article in news.com.au about sibling torture. I can't really vividly remember about me and my siblings because I can say that I grew up outside my family. I'm the second child and I reached out outside my family early on. But I have a very happy childhood with my siblings. Anyway, I was thinking that the Tatapilla, for now anyway, will not be able to experience being the big brother. Hopefully, when we're with his cousins, it's possible. I saw my nephews and niece treat each other and it was pure chaos. If I could color print those memories or bottle them up, I would. I miss my family now.

On the home front

Ive been feeling domesticated this weekend and went shopping for some stuff for the kitchen. Things that I haven't really thought even before but it seems I am inspired these days. There limited shops in our area for house stuff and a couple of department stores. I didn't really buy flat tv mounts but just small things like stainless steel bin, silicon dish rack, jar opener (very clever this one) and towel holder.

Cooking Marathon

I'm feeling good today as I did a lot of things just for one day. Woke up late yet was able to accomplish a lot. But the downside is, The Tatapilla is still awake up this time.

I was able to put 4 loads of washing - got three loads dry and one load waiting to be put on the line but that can wait for tomorrow. I had two trips to the shops - one for groceries and another for the meat. I cooked 5 dishes today and the last one - braised steak is on the stove. That while facebooking and blogging. A very productive day for me. Maybe, I could still have time to spare to make bridesmaid dresses if I have to.

3rd Weekend

Dental appointment – not so looking forward to it as I get lots of pains after based on the first appointment. I had 4 fillings and fortunately, all is now well.

Went to the shops to buy Mcj some work clothes.

Cooked yummy dinners (according to Mcj).
Saturday – mince meat, onions and potatoes stacked in a pan covered with diced tomato.
Sunday – chicken adobo (close to it), with veggies on rice.

Watched cricket – test cricket between Australia and Pakistan. Played backyard cricket, golf and croquet with The Tatapilla.

Managed to unpack what’s left from our holidays and folded washings for 2 weeks. Sorted out paper files.

A fruitful, relaxing and fun weekend for us.

Spoilt for Choice

After reading this post, I thought I would make my own guidelines or update the existing ones.

Foremost, the choice of shops. For food shopping, I adopted my husband’s. Shop at a shop owned by a local – not necessarily living in our area but as long as Aussie. Next is the completeness of the items – I don’t want to end up going at three different shops. Just in our suburb, there are 4 Supermarkets in the shopping block – two major players and two independent. When we just need few items (like milk, juice, bread), I usually hit the independent that’s very accessible.

As to choice of food and grocery items, quality comes first, followed by price. I think, looking at the quality of the product especially fresh produce is necessary. There’s also the consideration of when are you going to use it. If you’re planning to use it in the next couple of days, it doesn’t have to be very fresh if fresh comes with an exorbitant price.

For packaged or processed food, I stick with what I’ve proven and tested that suits my family. If it’s on special, I tend to buy two or three. Same standard goes with buying toiletries and baby products. And I tend to buy in bulk at is really saves me money.

A necessary evil for my husband in the hot weather is cola. We’ve narrowed down the choice between Pepsi and Coke – and then the price of the two. Pepsi is a lot cheaper (and taste a lot nicer for me) but when Coke is on Special, I get it.

Clothes shopping is a bit complicated as there are lots of factors to consider. There’s the weather, the quality, the colour and make, the design, the price.

Buying shoes for me is a different story. I haven’t developed guidelines on this yet. I am always ruled by impulse but today, I promised myself, no buying until I get them tattered. I have never trashed a pair of shoes as far as I can remember. They normally end up to another person’s feet if I get tired of them. Hopefully I can stick to this.
